8th Grade Literature Wiki
As part of their study of Tennessee William’s classic “The Glass Menagerie,” Tom Wehling’s 8th grade English students analyzed scenes from the play and shared their work via a wiki. Students were assigned to cooperative learning groups, each of which was responsible for a particular scene. The students completed much of the work outside of class and used “face-to-face” time in the classroom to discuss their interpretations/summations of the text. As a continuation to the unit of study, students are currently in the process of using the wiki to develop single scene plays. Working in pairs, they will craft their dialog and then make an audio recording of the scene.
In previous years, each student wrote his/her own play which was only read by the teacher. By using a wiki, the students were able to work collaboratively and write for a wider audience.
As a culminating activity, the Drama department, in conjunction with the English faculty, will review all the plays and select a few to be performed for the Middle School. The performances will be recorded and shared with the rest of the School.
Check back in January to read and listen to all the plays and look for the film performances later this winter.
