Blogging from METC: David Jakes
This afternoon I had the pleasure of attending David Jakes’ session, “21st Century Cartographers: Using Google Earth and Google Maps to Empower Student Learning.” The tips and techniques he shared would benefit novice and experienced Google users alike. While all of David’s resources are available here, I found these points from his presentation particularly valuable:
Street View
Google Maps’ Street View provides a 360 degree street level view for a select number of US cities:
Google Mapplets
Mapplets let you add enhanced content to your Google Earth Maps:
Google Sky
Now you can exlore stars, planets, constellations and more using Google Sky:
Flight Simulator
In the latest version of Google Earth, Ctrl-Alt-A (Windows) or Command+Option+A (Mac) will open up a whole world of fun!
YouTube Direkt
If you haven’t tried these features before, I would encourage you to watch the video clips, read David’s resources, and talk to me if you have any question. You’ll be amazed at what you can do with Google Earth and Google Maps!
